NEWS RELEASE
Walk to Remember Delivers Over 300 Care Packages
to Front Range Hospitals
March 22, 2011, Littleton, CO – A Walk to Remember (WTR) assembled and delivered over 300 Bereavement Care Packages to 26 Colorado Front Range and High Country Hospital Labor & Delivery Units this month. Thirty volunteers gathered on March 5th to assemble the packages in the first round of deliveries for 2011. Deliveries took place March 5 – March 21. An additional 150 packages will be assembled and distributed to Front Range hospitals L&D Units in July with an additional 150 in the fall.
No one ever expects to experience the death of their baby and they are often unprepared for this tragic event. WTR’s Bereavement Care Packages bring support and comfort to those families who have lost their baby. The packages provide a gentle guide of ideas and thoughts for making memories and keepsakes and essentially making the most of the precious time families have at the hospital with their baby. At the time of a loss, parents can be in a place where their ability for decision making is impaired. This will be their only opportunity to create keepsakes and memories of their child, it is vitally important for them to have some tools to guide them. WTR’s Care Packages also include advice from others who have been down this path of grief, ideas for making memories including picture taking, and thoughts from other parents about things they wished they had done.
The majority of funds raised by WTR supports the Bereavement Care Package Program, which provides support information and resources for parents. WTR coordinates with Labor and Delivery and Neonatal Units throughout the Front Range Area to assess their needs and provide them with Bereavement Care Packages.
