Bereavement Care Packages

No one ever expects to lose their child and they are often unprepared for this tragic event. Our goal at Walk to Remember is to bring support and comfort to those families who have suffered the loss of their child by providing Bereavement Care Packages to local hospitals. These packages provide a gentle guide of ideas and thoughts for making memories and keepsakes, and essentially making the most of this precious time they have at the hospital with their baby.

The majority of the money raised from the Walk to Remember funds the Bereavement Care Packages Program, which provides support information and resources for parents. We coordinate with health care workers throughout the Front Range Area to assess their needs and provide them with bereavement care packages.

Our Bereavement Care Packages serve an urgent and unmet need. At the time of a loss, parents can be in a place where their ability for decision making is impaired. This will be their only opportunity to create keepsakes and memories of their child, it is vitally important for them to have some tools to guide them. Our Care Packages also include advice from others who have been there, ideas for making memories including picture taking, and thoughts from other parents about things they wished they had done.

A standard Bereavement Care Package includes:

  • Journal
  • Empty Cradle, Broken Heart Book
  • Small Teddy Bear
  • Footprint Mold
  • Camera
  • Blanket
  • 2 Bereavement Awareness Bracelets
  • Local and Online Support Group Information with Names and Contact Information

The average cost of each Bereavement Care Package is approximately $40.

Other items that can be donated and included in the packages include: small stuffed animals, clothes (preemie and newborn items), crocheted hats and blankets, candles, hand/foot mold kits.
